The Council, which is headquartered in New York with an office in Washington, DC, does this by convening meetings where prominent thinkers debate and discuss the major issues of our time, conducting a wide-ranging studies program, publishing Foreign Affairs, the preeminent journal covering international affairs and U.S. foreign policy, maintaining a diverse membership, sponsoring independent task forces, and providing up-to-date information about the world and U.S. foreign policy on the Council’s website, cfr.org.
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will provide strategic management and oversight of all financial, investing, budgeting, cost containment, risk management, and accounting activities of the Council. A member of the senior management team, this individual will work in partnership with theCOO and other Council leadership. The Council on Foreign Relations is the nation's premier foreign policy membership organization. The Council has approximately 4,400 individual and 250 Corporate members, which are the core constituency of the organization. It is dedicated to being a resource for the members and the broader foreign policy community on the international relations challenges facing the United States and other countries. The Council does this through cutting-edge research, through publishing the preeminent foreign policy publication, Foreign Affairs, and through its award-winning website, cfr.org, considered one of the best for on-line foreign policy information.
The Council sponsors several prestigious annual fellowship programs. These include the International Affairs Fellowship program designed to advance the professional development of outstanding foreign policy professionals, the Edward R. Murrow Fellowship designed for foreign correspondents or editors of international news, and the Military Fellowships designed for outstanding officers from the various branches of the Military.

Title: Associate Director, Communications and Marketing

The Communications & Marketing office works to promote and publicize the Council’s scholars, programs, and publications. The Associate Director of Communications & Marketing, Washington, is part of a team that is responsible for positioning and promoting the Council via a wide spectrum of media, marketing, and communications channels.
The major responsibilities of this position will include:
· Developing and implementing media, communications, and marketing strategies for the Council.
· Writing press releases, media guides, newsletter stories, and other content.
· Assessing and developing departmental workflow procedures to ensure effective and efficient operations.
· Building upon departmental procedures designed to enhance collaboration and consistency between Washington and New York operations.
· Supervising a departmental assistant.
· Managing on-the-record events, publication rollout events, and press briefings in Washington.
· Managing marketing and press outreach for Council publications.
· Acting as liaison for Washington-based press, including fielding journalists’ requests for experts.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Related experience in communications, journalism, or related field.
· Related management and supervisory experience, including experience developing effective workflow processes.
· Degree in a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
· Proven knowledge of current U.S. foreign policy and international affairs issues.
· Outstanding written and communication skills and experience, including copy editing skills.
· Experience and familiarity with Washington-based press strongly preferred.
· Proven ability to work effectively and proactively in a fast-paced team environment.
· Candidates must have the ability and willingness to work flexible hours when necessary.
