    Founded in 1921, the Council on Foreign Relations is the leading independent national membership organization and nonpartisan center for dedicated academic analysis of events on the world stage, and the subsequent foreign policy choices facing the United States and other governments.

    The Council organizes hundreds of events each year, featuring prominent world leaders, government officials, policy experts, and corporate executives.  In addition, the Council's Studies Department is one of the country's largest foreign policy think tanks, with a widely respected and influential research staff with expertise in a variety of subject areas. The Council produces cutting-edge research, publishes the preeminent U.S. foreign policy publication, Foreign Affairs, and the award-winning website, www.cfr.org. The Council's headquarters is located in New York, with an active office serving members in Washington, DC.

    The Corporate Membership Program consists of over 200 U.S. and foreign corporations from all business sectors, and engages the corporate community in the Council's work.  The program provides a high-level forum for corporate members to exchange views with their peers in the private and public sectors on a wide range of international issues.  Members also gain access to information and analysis by Council researchers and other experts.

    The priorities and responsibilities of this position include:

    • Work closely with the department's Vice President and the Director of Corporate Affairs in Washington, DC to provide strategic direction and oversee execution of the Councils Corporate Membership Program
    • Manage the Corporate Affairs staff in New York, including setting their priorities and investing in their professional development
    • Develop strategy for shaping and growing the corporate membership community by responding to the evolving priorities of current member companies and recruiting new members who will contribute to the work of the Council
    • Manage the program's budget strategy and process
    • Reinforce the Councils role as a leading forum for discussion of policy issues that are important to global business
    • Maintain a vital, engaged, and supportive Council corporate community that contributes to - and derives value from - the organization as a whole
    • Engage Corporate members in the substantive work of the Council's think tank
    • Ensure high-quality programming, including a two-day annual conference, that will address the foreign and economic policy issues of greatest importance to the corporate community; manage special events designed specifically to engage company leadership
    • Report directly to the Vice President of Membership, Fellowship & Corporate Affairs, and work closely with other departments in support of member relations and corporate development objectives

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • A minimum of 10 years related management experience , including several years working in the private sector, with a thorough understanding of the international business environment and the policy issues that most affect the global system
    • Significant experience managing and developing staff
    • Program planning experience strongly preferred
    • Dynamic, goal-oriented manager, with the ability to work in a highly collaborative environment
    • Proactive and innovative thinker, with proven ability to execute new initiatives
    • Experience in event programming and audience development
    • Excellent communication and networking skills
    • Strong business writing, presentation, and public speaking skills
    • Budget management experience
    • Proven time management and organizational skills
    • Strong academic credentials, especially in a related field
    • Significant and current knowledge in the business world and foreign policy strongly preferred

    • Assisting with the logistics of planning and implementing Outreach programs, including tracking responses and participation, preparing rosters, drafting thank you notes, and updating meeting records
    • Facilitating mailings of CFR materials and publications to Outreach constituents
    • Researching and compiling information and contacts for Outreach constituents
    • Maintaining database of contacts
    • Providing other general logistical and project support to department

    Job Requirements:

     

    • Strong related experience, including logistical and administrative experience in program and/or event planning
    • Superior organizational skills and attention to detail with an ability to effectively multi-task and meet deadlines

    CFR's David Rockefeller Studies Program is one of the country's largest foreign policy think tanks with a widely respected and influential research staff. The Director of Studies office manages and administers staffing, budgeting, fundraising, and developing and implementing departmental procedures.  The Program Coordinator will be part of the team that manages the work of the think tank. The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):

    • Working closely with the Director of Studies office in applying for foundation grants for the Studies Program, including providing direction to staff on the grant application process
    • Assisting with the management of the grant process by tracking grant reporting deadlines and ensuring that grant reports fulfill reporting requirements
    • Conducting foundation research and compiling information to assist with development and fundraising activities for the Studies Program
    • Drafting and proofreading of correspondence and other written material
    • Training junior staff on departmental policies and procedures
    • Managing departmental projects upon request

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • 2+ years of related administrative experience, preferably in a Development office
    • Familiarity with the foundation grant process and some grant writing experience strongly preferred

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Minimum of 1-2 years of related experience in communications, journalism, or related field.

    • Outstanding written and communication skills and experience, including copy editing skills.
    • Experience and familiarity with media preferred.
    • Proven ability to work effectively and proactively in a fast-paced team environment.

    The Research Associate will support fellows whose work examines U.S. policy toward Southeast Asia, as well as Iran and U.S. policy toward the Middle East.

    The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):

    ·         Providing administrative support to the fellows, including answering telephones, handling correspondence, filing, and responding to requests for information.

    ·         Coordinating events, including arranging mailings, preparing invitations, making travel arrangements, scheduling, corresponding with speakers, helping to prepare background papers and materials for distribution, and providing other logistical support.

    ·         Researching specific areas as requested by the fellows.

    ·         Assisting with the drafting, proofreading and editing of articles, book chapters, and other written material, as requested by the fellows.

    ·         Tracking news and data sources on major international issues.

    ·         Managing budgets, including preparing budgets and tracking monthly statements, monitoring grant information and writing reports and requests, creating and updating Excel spreadsheets, and preparing vouchers for reimbursement.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    ·         BA degree in International Relations or a related field, with high academic credentials and coursework in Southeast Asia and Middle East Studies.

    ·         1+ years related administrative and/or internship experience

    ·         Excellent verbal and written communication skills

    ·         Strong research, proofreading, and editing skills

    ·         Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail

    ·         Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Email, including advanced functions such as mail merge
