Iraq: The Day After
Speaker: Rachel Bronson, Senior Fellow and Director, Middle East Studies, Council on Foreign Relations
If Washington does not clearly define its goals for a post-Saddam Iraq and build support for them at home and with our allies, the resulting problems are certain to overshadow any initial military success. Rachel Bronson is Co-Director of an independent working group co-sponsored by the Council on Foreign Relations, whose report, Guiding Principles for U.S. Post-Conflict Policy in Iraq, will be released this Wednesday, December 18. In this call, Dr. Bronson will address the working groups outline of the policy priorities for promoting reconstruction and reconciliation in Iraq after military action, and for building a more secure Middle East.
Rachel Bronson is Senior Fellow and Director of Middle East Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations. She runs the Roundtable on the Middle East and Islam, part of a major Council undertaking that has responded to events after September 11. Dr. Bronson has served as a consultant to the Center for Naval Analyses, a Senior Fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, D.C., and a Fellow at Harvard University's Center for Science and International Affairs. Her writing has appeared in publications such as Foreign Affairs, the Washington Quarterly, and the New York Times.
