Matthew Hoh's Resignation Letter, U.S. Govt. Senior Civilian Representative, Afghanistan

Foreign Service officer Matthew Hoh submitted this resignation letter on September 10, 2009. Hoh, who became the senior civilian representative in Afghanistan's Zabul province, stated in the letter, "I have doubts and reservations about our current strategy and planned future strategy, but my resignation is based not upon how we are pursuing this war, but why and to what end." He is cited as the first U.S. government official to have resigned in objection to the U.S.' presence and activities in Afghanistan. The letter is provided courtesy of the Washington Post.
