CFR's Scott Snyder says the Obama administration's objectives going into the APEC summit include promoting exports to Asian countries through the Trans-Pacific Partnership, and signaling the U.S. commitment to the region by joining the East Asia Summit for the first time. Snyder argues that these initiatives "threaten the primary role that APEC has played as a gathering for Asian leaders."
