Co-Founder and Managing Director, The Carlyle Group
David M. Rubenstein is a co-founder and managing director of The Carlyle Group, which is one of the world’s largest private equity firms, managing more than $85 billion through sixty private equity funds from twenty nine offices in the U.S., Europe, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East. Prior to co-founding Carlyle in 1987, Mr. Rubenstein practiced law in New York, with the firm of Paul, Weiss, Rifkin, Wharton & Garrison; served as deputy assistant to the president for domestic policy in the Cater Administration; and practiced law in Washington, D.C., with the firm Shaw, Pittman, Potts & Trowbridge. Mr. Rubenstein is a Regent of the Smithsonian Institution, a member of the Board of Trustees of Johns Hopkins University, Duke University, University of Chicago, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and Johns Hopkins Medicine and is a member of the Business Council and the Trilateral Commission. He is based in Washington, D.C.
