Professor Yuan serves as director of the Institute of International Relations and the American Studies Center at Beijing University. She also is vice dean of the School of International Studies at Beijing University. From 1997 to 2001, she was a visiting scholar at The Brookings Institution, Washington, DC. Prior to that, she served as visiting scholar at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. Professor Yuan is vice president and secretary general of the Beijing Women Professors' Association.
