Henry Siegman, CFR’s leading expert on Israeli and Palestinian affairs, says Israel’s parliamentary elections held some major surprises, although Acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has emerged as expected as the likely next head of government. One was the major setback to the Likud party, its most significant defeat in the past 30 years.
