Brian P. Klein is a Foreign Service officer with the U.S. Department of State. He served most recently at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing covering China’s foreign economic policy and energy issues. His responsibilities included analysis of China’s regional economic integration, cross-border trade, international investment, and domestic and international energy policy. Prior to joining the State Department, Mr. Klein was director of new business initiatives at SRA Ventures, where he worked on the interim management teams of several technology startup companies and advised on corporate growth strategies. He has a BA in philosophy from Tufts University and a MA in international affairs from the Elliot School, George Washington University. During his IAF tenure at Nippon Keidanren (Japan Business Federation), he will be conducting research on Japanese views of China’s rising prominence in Asia and the potential implications for regional security and economic competitiveness.
