Editor, Newsweek International
Dr. Zakaria is the editor of Newsweek International, overseeing all Newsweek's editions abroad. He also writes a regular column for Newsweek, which also appears in Newsweek International and fortnightly in the Washington Post. Starting in 2008, he will host a new foreign affairs show on CNN Worldwide. In 1992 he was appointed managing editor of Foreign Affairs, a position he held for eight years. He is the author of From Wealth To Power: The Unusual Origins of America's World Role, The Future of Freedom: Illiberal Democracy at Home and Abroad., and the forthcoming The Post American World. Dr. Zakaria has won several awards for his columns and other writing. He currently serves on the boards of Yale University, the Trilateral Commission, and Shakespeare and Company. He is based in New York, N.Y.

Despite some eerie parallels between the position of the United States today and that of the British Empire a century ago, there are key differences. Britain's decline was driven by bad economics.
