President, Global Development Program, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
Ms. Burwell is the president of the Global Development program at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. She has served as the Chief Operating Officer of the foundation as well. Prior to joining the foundation, Ms. Burwell served in the Clinton administration as Deputy Director of the Office of Management and Budget, Assistant to the President, Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, and Chief of Staff to Secretary of the Treasury, Robert E. Rubin. She also worked for McKinsey and Company. Ms. Burwell serves on the Board of Directors for MetLife Inc., the Governing Council of the Miller Center of Public Affairs at the University of Virginia, and as a member of the Aspen Strategy Group and the CSIS Smart Power Commission. She is a graduate of Harvard University and is a Rhodes Scholar. She is based in Seattle, WA .
