This convention aims to lessen and prevent pollution from ship and aircraft discharge, dumping, and industrial waste in the Mediterranean Sea. It was signed February 16, 1976 and entered into force February 12, 1978. It was revised in June 1995 as the Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment and the Coastal Region of the Mediterranean.
