Janine Hill is director of fellowship affairs and studies strategic planning at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR). As director of fellowship affairs, she coordinates the recruitment and selection process for CFR's extensive fellowship program, which includes eight to ten international affairs fellows, four to five international affairs fellows in Japan, five military fellows, three Stanton nuclear security fellows, a national intelligence fellow, the Edward R. Murrow press fellow, and the Cyrus Vance fellow in diplomatic affairs. As director of studies strategic planning, she coordinates fundraising strategies to support the work of the scholars within the David Rockefeller Studies Program, CFR's think tank.
Hill has been involved in the management of the Studies Program for the past six years. She joined CFR in 2002 as associate director of the Center for Preventive Action (CPA), where she focused on fundraising for CPA as well as on conflict prevention in Southeast Asia and Africa.
Prior to joining CFR, Hill was vice president in corporate finance at Salomon Brothers and assistant treasurer at Time Incorporated. Before that, Hill practiced law at Sullivan & Cromwell.
Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Hill grew up in France and Belgium. She graduated from the University of Paris summa cum laude with a degree in international law and economics and has a JD from Harvard Law School. She is a member of the board of trustees of AXA Art Insurance Corporation, American Foundation for the Paris School of Economics, and the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University. Hill is fluent in French, speaks Spanish and German, and is studying Arabic.
