Colonel Julian Dale Alford, an infantry officer, is a military fellow, U.S. Marine Corps, at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) in New York.
As a field grade officer, he commanded the Basic School in Quantico, VA, served as the director of strategic effects ISAF, HQ, in Kabul, Afghanistan, commanded the 3rd Battalion, 6th Marines in both eastern Afghanistan and western Iraq, and was the executive officer of the 2nd Battalion, 8th Marines in OIF I, the March to Baghdad. As a company grade officer, Colonel Alford participated in Operation Just Cause, Panama, Operation Desert Storm, Kuwait, and Operation Assured Response, Liberia. He is a graduate of the Marine Corps Command and Staff College and the Marine Corps War College.
