The Brussels Declaration on Preventing and Combating Trafficking in Human Beings was adopted on November 29, 2002 at the European Conference on Preventing and Combating Trafficking in Human Beings. The EU states, "The overarching objective of the Conference was to provide an opportunity to take stock of trends in human trafficking and a European policy to respond to a challenge that risks undermining our fundamental values and the full realisation of an area of freedom, security and justice."
