UN Security Council Resolution 1284, Iraq

UN Security Council Resolution 1284 regards policy towards Iraq; it was a compromise resolution between parties calling for previous Iraqi disarmament specifications and other parties calling for an easing of economic sanctions. The resolution also replaced the UN Special Commission on Iraq with the new UN Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission (UNMOVIC). It was adopted on December 17, 1999.

The program was terminated on June 29, 2007, with the Security Council resolution 1762, and UNMOVIC released a compendium of knowledge gained during inspections of Iraq weapons programs and lessons learned.
