Balfour Declaration

Author: Arthur James Balfour

Balfour Declaration

Written by British Foreign Secretary Arthur James Balfour, this letter to Lord Rothschild endorsed the British government's establishment of a Jewish "national home" in Palestine, a decision that had been made days before at a British Cabinet meeting. The letter, published on November 8, 1917 in the London Times, rallied the movement to create a Jewish homeland in Palestine.
