Hamas Covenant, 1988

Hamas (an acronym for Harakat al-Muqawama al-Islamiya or Islamic Resistance Movement) drew up this Covenant in 1988; it gives the ideological basis behind the organization. Among the issues covered in its 36 articles are Hamas' relationship to the PLO, and its goal of jihad as the solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
