Espionage Act of 1917

This act became federal law (U.S. Code 18, Part 1, Chapter 37) on June 15, 1917, about two months after the United States entered World War I. Among its issues addressed are the disclosure of classified information; gathering or delivering defense information to aid foreign governments; gathering, transmitting or losing defense information; harboring or concealing persons; the use of aircraft for photographing defense installations; and the publication and sale of photographs of defense installations.
