Study Group on Thinking Regionally in Africa
Director: Salih Booker
January 1, 1997 - January 1, 2000
The study group discussed the conceptualization of American national interests in Africa and debated strategies to promote U.S. relationships with Africa in a manner conductive to building regional economic, security, and political cooperation with and among nations in each of Africa's five regions. Consisting of American and African specialists, members of the group reviewed portions of a manuscript that offered a rationale and framework for organizing America's Africa policy around U.S. interests in Africa by subregion and function (security; democracy; and economic development, trade, investment).
