Political and economic transformation in the Middle East poses new opportunities and challenges to the United States, which has been the dominant outside power in the area and catalyst for many of these changes. The U.S.\Middle East Project, working through a specially selected task force of leading specialists in the region and American foreign policy, undertook an overall review of developments and will issue its recommendations to the Clinton Administration. Sessions have included presentations by Lawrence S. Eagleburger and Brent Scowcroft.
