Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and South Korean Minister of National Defense Yoon Kwang Ung issued this joint statement after the 38th Republic of Korea / US Security Consultative Meeting. Among the issues agreed upon were the transfer of wartime operation control of Korean troops from the US military to South Korea sometime during October 15, 2009 - March 15, 2012; the US' "firm commitment" to defending South Korea against North Korea; and South Korea's committment to the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty and its 1992 denuclearization agreement with North Korea.
