CFR.org’s Crisis Guide: Darfur has been named a finalist by the Television Academy of Arts and Sciences in the 29th annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards in the “New Approaches to News & Documentary Programming: Current News Coverage” category. The guide examines the tragedy in Sudan’s Darfur region and depicts the human, political, military, and historical realities in the region. Introduced through a compelling multimedia essay comprised of original footage from seven of the world’s leading photojournalists, it also includes an interactive timeline and map, and provides links to deeper resources from the Council’s think tank and other organizations around the world.
“The journalists and documentary filmmakers nominated this year have accomplished the daunting task of helping viewers understand some of the most compelling issues of our time,” said Peter Price, President and CEO of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. “We salute them for their efforts.”
The News & Documentary Emmy Awards will be presented on Monday, September 22nd, during a ceremony at Lincoln Center, in New York City. The event will be attended by more than 1,000 television and new media industry executives, news and documentary producers, and journalists. Emmy Awards will be presented in 33 categories, including Breaking News, Investigative Reporting, Outstanding Interview, and Best Documentary, among others. Crisis Guides, CFR.org’s multimedia, interactive franchise, seek to bring context and historical perspective to the world’s most complex issues. The guides won First Prize at the September 2007 Knight Batten Awards for Innovation in Journalism.
