    Published March 1, 2005

Published every four years, this document outlines the policy behind the military's acquisitions, development, and research of weapons. It refers to the National Security Strategy's "defense of freedom" and describes four objectives: to "secure the US from direct attack, secure strategic access and retain global freedom of action, strengthen alliances and partnerships", and "establish favorable security conditions".
