  Advanced Energy Initiative

  In his 2006 State of the Union Address President George W. Bush mentioned this Initiative, citing the United States' "addiction to oil" and introducing the goal of replacing over 75% of Middle East oil imports by 2025. The Initiative offers a 22% increase for Department of Energy research on "clean energy", and speaks of a general diversification of energy sources.
