Submission Guidelines

Thank you for your interest in Ask CFR Experts. CFR welcomes questions from the general public. Please note these considerations:

  • Questions should address a topic related to U.S. foreign policy. See the previously answered questions for guidance.
  • Questions should be no longer than 80 characters.
  • CFR reserves the right to select the most appropriate expert to answer submitted questions.
  • Questions may be edited for length or clarity. It may take several weeks for a selected question to be answered and published.
  • Your submission grants CFR permission to publish your name and location along with your question on CFR's website and other public forums.
  • If you include your Twitter handle, CFR may acknowledge you on Twitter in the event that your question is answered.
  • Due to the volume of submissions, we regret that not all questions can be answered.

To submit a question, please follow these steps:

  1. Fill out the online form and click "Submit Your Question".
  2. Check your email account for a message from CFR asking you to confirm your email address.
  3. Click on the link in the email message. A Web page will open to confirm a successful submission.

We require a valid email address to protect your privacy and to prevent others from submitting questions under your name. CFR will never publish your email address or otherwise use it except for the express purpose of your participation in Ask CFR Experts.
