Both Democrats and Republicans are running especially competitive 2008 presidential nominating races. To win the Democratic Party nomination, a candidate will need to garner at least 2,025 Democratic delegates, representing more than half of all delegates attending the nominating convention in August. On the Republican side, at least 1,191 delegates attending the GOP convention in September will be needed to win the presidential nomination. Polling data consistently show the economy is foremost in the minds of voters. However, the war in Iraq, terrorism, immigration, globalization, and a host of issues arguably contained within “the economy” also rank high.
