In 1974, the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) launched the Cyrus Vance Fellowship in Diplomatic Studies. The program offers outstanding Foreign Service Officers from the U.S. Department of State the opportunity to spend a year affiliated with CFR in New York as a visiting fellow and to step away from the demands of public service to reflect on foreign policy issues. CFR awards one Cyrus Vance Fellowship annually. During the fellowship year, the Cyrus Vance Fellow expands his or her knowledge of international relations through a program of individual study, research and reflection, extensive participation in CFR’s active program of meetings and events, and interaction with the CFR’s diverse membership.
The program is currently on hold. Interested Foreign Service Officers should contact their human resources officer at the U.S. Department of State for further information.
A list of former Cyrus Vance Fellows can be found online by visiting Historical Roster of CFR’s Cyrus Vance Fellows.
