UN Report on the Global AIDS Epidemic, 2006

Published May 2006

This UN report, a five year assessment of the AIDS epidemic, finds that AIDS is slowing down globally, with the rate of new HIV infections having stabilized overall. In Sub-Saharan Africa, home to two thirds of all HIV cases, some countries have made progress although in some, such as South Africa, the epidemic rages on. The report addresses progress, impact, prevention, high-risk groups, treatment, the role of civil society, financing, and strategy.
