Miriam Coronel-Ferrer became the world's first-ever female chief negotiator to sign a final peace accord when the government of the Philippines reached the 2014 agreement with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front. She was appointed in 2010 by President Benigno Aquino III to the government’s negotiating team, and took over as chair in 2012.
