When peace negotiations started in Northern Ireland, Monica McWilliams organized women across Catholic-Protestant lines and formed a political party to gain formal access to the talks. The Northern Ireland Women’s Coalition (NIWC), established in 1996, introduced critical provisions on cross-community dialogue, social services, and human rights into the Good Friday Agreement. Today, McWilliams helps train women involved in peace processes around the world.
