This update represents violence in Nigeria and related to Boko Haram in Cameroon, Chad, and Niger from December 10 to December 16, 2022. 
The map depicts deaths by state. Borno State, in Nigeria's North East, is the epicenter of Boko Haram-related violence, which has also spilled into neighboring Adamawa and Yobe states, among others.

Below is a visualization and description of some of the most significant incidents of political violence in Nigeria from December 10 to December 16, 2022. This update also represents violence related to Boko Haram in Cameroon, Chad, and Niger. These incidents are included in the Nigeria Security Tracker.

 

 

  • December 10: Communal violence led to four deaths in Odigbo, Ondo. 
  • December 10: Gunmen killed four while enforcing a sit-at-home order in Enugu, Enugu. 
  • December 10: Kidnappers abducted sixteen in Kuje, Federal Capital Territory. 
  • December 11: Bandits killed four in Jibia, Katsina. 
  • December 11: Air strikes killed an estimated ten bandits each in Chikun, Igabi, and Birnin-Gwari Local Government Areas (est. at thirty total) in Kaduna. 
  • December 11: Bandits killed six and abducted twelve in Kachia, Kaduna. 
  • December 11: Bandits killed seventeen in Alkaleri, Bauchi. 
  • December 12: One police officer and three gunmen were killed during another attack on an Independent National Electoral Commission office in Owerri, Imo. 
  • December 12: Kidnappers abducted two in Kiyawa, Jigawa. 
  • December 13: Police officers killed two bandits in Dutsin-Ma, Katsina. 
  • December 13: A cult clash resulted in five deaths in Uyo, Akwa Ibom. 
  • December 13: Bandits killed six in Tangaza, Sokoto. 
  • December 13: Bandits killed three in Kaura, Kaduna. 
  • December 14: Bandits killed four in Zangon Kataf, Kaduna. 
  • December 14: Police officers killed two Indigenous People of Biafra/Eastern Security Network members in Onicha, Ebonyi. 
  • December 15: Three cultists were killed during a clash in Ahoada East, Rivers.
  • December 15: Police officers killed one during a protest in Ohaji/Egbema, Imo.
  • December 16: Gunmen killed one Labour Party candidate in Unuimo, Imo.
  • December 16: Nigerian troops killed six Boko Haram militants in Bama, Borno.
  • December 16: Nigerian troops killed two bandits in Giwa, Kaduna.
  • December 16: Bandits killed twenty and abducted two-hundred fifty in Maru, Zamfara.
  • December 16: Vigilantes killed fifteen bandits in Maru, Zamfara.
