Overview

Subsidies that encourage fossil fuel consumption cost governments an estimated $500 billion annually and have vexed policymakers for years. The Maurice R. Greenberg Center for Geoeconomic Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations convened a group of roughly twenty experts in early May 2015 for an all-day workshop to discuss challenges, opportunities, and strategies of fossil fuel subsidy reform.
