Below is a visualization and description of some of the most significant incidents of political violence in Nigeria from August 9 to August 15, 2014.

These incidents are included in the Nigeria Security Tracker.

  • August 10: Police shot at anti-Boko Haram protestors in Maiduguri who were angry about military negligence, killing one. Protests were then banned.
  • August 10: Troops killed fifty Boko Haram insurgents and lost two soldiers when they tried to reclaim Damboa, Borno.
  • August 10: Boko Haram killed thirty and kidnapped ninety-seven boys and men from Kukawa, Borno. Chadian forces have allegedly rescued the majority of the kidnapped.
  • August 10-August 11: Sectarian violence resulted in fourteen deaths across Jos East and Shendam local government areas of Plateau.
  • August 11: All Progressive Congress and People’s Democratic Party supporters clashed in Ile-Ife, Osun.
  • August 13: All Progressive Congress and People’s Democratic Party supporters clashed in Rivers, leaving eight injured.
  • August 15: All Progressive Congress and People’s Democratic Party supporters clashed in Kwara, leaving one injured.
