The potential loss of life from the earthquake in Northern Pakistan is stunning -- a reminder of how precarious life is for many in one of the world’s nuclear states.  Not to mention a state where Osama Bin Laden might well be hiding.

This is not a time for the US to be stingy, despite our own domestic needs and fiscal deficits.  Fortunately, the Bush Administration seems to be responding to this earthquake a bit more rapidly than it responded to the tsunami.  I would hope, though, that if Pakistan needs heavy lift helicopters, the US has can make more than eight available.
