David E. Sanger
White House and National Security Correspondent, The New York Times

David E. Sanger is the White House and national security correspondent for The New York Times, where he has worked for more than four decades as a reporter, a foreign correspondent, and a Washington correspondent, covering technology, foreign policy and the American presidency.
Since he returned from Tokyo, where he served as the Times bureau chief, Mr. Sanger has covered five American presidents. He has been a member of three Times teams that won the Pulitzer Prize, including in 2017 for international reporting about Russia’s efforts to manipulate the presidential election. He has won numerous other journalism awards for coverage of the White House and national security issues.
He is also the bestselling author of four books: The Inheritance, Confront and Conceal, The Perfect Weapon: War, Sabotage and Fear in the Cyber Age, and, most recently, New Cold Wars: China’s Rise, Russia’s Invasion and America’s Struggle to Defend the West. He was the executive producer of two HBO documentaries, including one based on The Perfect Weapon.
Mr. Sanger is a political and national security contributor for CNN, where he appears frequently to analyze global events. He also teaches national security policy at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.
A 1982 graduate of Harvard College, Mr. Sanger lives in Washington, D.C. with his wife, Sherill. They have two sons.
