Council on Foreign Relations Giveaway Terms & Conditions

By entering this Council on Foreign Relations (“CFR” and/or “Sponsor”) Giveaway (“Promotion”), you will be bound by these Terms & Conditions and CFR’s Privacy Policy. You also acknowledge that you satisfy all eligibility requirements. Promotion begins on January 30, 2024 at 12:00:00 PM ET and ends on February 13, 2024 at 11:59:59 PM ET

Eligibility. Open to all U.S. residents who are: (1) 18 years of age or the legal age of majority in their state of residence prior to the date of entry; or (2) at least thirteen (13) years of age at the time of entry and have a parent’s or legal guardian’s consent and supervision to use cfr.org and enter this Promotion. Employees of CFR and its affiliates, and their immediate family members are not eligible to participate.

How to Enter the Promotion: To enter the Promotion, you must complete the site survey and submit your valid email and mailing address at Website (the "Web Site") by 11:59:59 PM ET on February 13, 2024.

Limit of one (1) entry per email address during the Promotion Period. Additional entries will be disqualified, and the Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any person that submits multiple entries. Automated or bulk entries submitted by third parties will be disqualified.

Prize(s) and Winner Selection Method. A total of ten (10) winners will be selected to win prizes (the "Prize") in a random drawing. Each Prize will consist of the following:

One (1) copy of The World That Wasn’t: Henry Wallace and the Fate of the American Century, by Benn Steil

The approximate retail value of the Prize is $35.00 USD. If applicable, each winner will be responsible for paying income taxes. 

The drawing for the Prize will be held by February 15, 2024. The drawing will be from all eligible entries received throughout the Promotion Period. The drawing will be conducted by CFR, whose decisions are final and binding in all matters relating to this Promotion. Odds of winning depend upon the number of eligible entries received. 

CFR will randomly select ten (10) eligible entrants as winners. The possible winners will receive an email explaining that they must respond with their full mailing address (U.S. addresses only) by February 23, 2024 to be awarded a Prize. The Prize will be shipped to the address provided by the entrant within 14 days of the drawing, or as soon thereafter as reasonably practicable.

Winning entrants will forfeit their Prize in the event that: (a) they are determined to be ineligible or not in compliance with these Terms & Conditions; or (b) any notification or shipment is returned undeliverable; or c) they do not provide a mailing address by the specified deadline.

Each Prize will be awarded “as is” and without warranty of any kind, express or implied (including, without limitation, any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose). If you win a Prize, you may not transfer, assign, or redeem the prize for cash from CFR. CFR reserves the right to substitute an item with a price of equal or greater value to the Prize.

Disclosure in Connection with Publicizing Entry. If you choose to promote your entry via social media or other channels, please include a statement such as #CFRgiveaway.

Additional Terms. CFR reserves the right to modify or cancel the Promotion at any time. Sponsor and its affiliates are not responsible for: (a) lost, misdirected, late, or incomplete entries or for inaccurate entry information; (b) any operation or transmission error, theft, unauthorized access to, or alteration of, entries; or (c) damage to any computer or device resulting from downloading Promotion materials. CFR may disqualify any individual found to be: (x) tampering with a Promotion; (y) violating these Terms & Conditions; or (z) acting in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner or with intent to threaten or harass any person. Incomplete and robotic, automatic, programmed or similar entries will be disqualified. The authorized subscriber of the account used to enter a Promotion at the actual time of entry will be deemed to be the participant and must comply with these Terms & Conditions in the event of a dispute as to entries submitted by multiple users having the same e-mail account.

No greater than the number of prizes stated on the Promotion will be awarded. If any errors occur in the selection of a potential winner, or if more prizes are claimed than specified, CFR may award the prize(s) by random drawing from among all eligible claimants. All prizes made available for a Promotion may not be awarded in the event Sponsor does not receive a sufficient number of qualified and eligible entries for an applicable Promotion.

Miscellaneous. This Promotion shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of the State of New York, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules or provisions. By entering a Promotion, you agree (for yourself and your heirs) that CFR and each of their respective affiliates and agents, and any entity involved in any aspect of the Promotion (all aforementioned parties are collectively, the “Released Parties”) will have no liability, and will be held harmless from and against liability, loss, injury or damage to property or person, including death, and reasonable attorney’s fees and court costs, due in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, by reason of the acceptance, possession, use or misuse of a prize or participation in the Promotion, even if caused or contributed to by the negligence of any of the Released Parties.

You agree that CFR’s decisions related to each Promotion and all distribution of prizes are final. Each winner agrees that, by participating in a Promotion CFR and their respective affiliates may use the winner’s name in any manner and in any medium for its promotional purposes without additional compensation, including posting in a winner’s list, except where prohibited by law, CFR and their respective affiliates may be required to disclose the winner’s address to state regulatory authorities.
