Nobel laureate economist Daron Acemoglu discusses his views on how liberal democracy flourished when it delivered on its promises of shared prosperity, widely-available public services, and self-government, and how the disruptions of digital technology and the social divisions of post-industrial society have strained those commitments and paved the way for our current crisis. He proposes “working-class liberalism” as a new governing philosophy for liberal democracy.

The C. Peter McColough Series on International Economics brings the world’s foremost economic policymakers and scholars to address members on current topics in international economics. This meeting series is presented by the Greenberg Center for Geoeconomics.
