CFR.org’s latest Crisis Guide examines the tragedy in Sudan’s Darfur region. Introduced through a compelling multimedia essay comprised of original and some never-before-seen footage from seven of the world’s leading photojournalists, this Crisis Guide depicts the human, political, military, and historical realities in the region, and provides links to deeper resources from the Council’s think tank and other organizations around the world. The guide also includes:

•        an interactive timeline of Sudan’s history since independence, narrated by the Council Senior Fellow for Africa Policy Studies Princeton N. Lyman;

•        interactive maps illustrating the larger African context of the crisis, the involvement of the United Nations on the continent, and its colonial past;

•        an examination by Council Senior Fellow for U.S. Foreign Policy and International Law Lee Feinstein of the UN’s “responsibility to protect;”

•        a chapter summarizing the stance taken by each of the major international actors; and

•        a “Get Link” feature for bloggers and webmasters who would like to host a graphic link to the guide on their sites.

Crisis Guides, CFR.org’s latest interactive editorial franchise, seek to bring context and historical perspective to the world’s most complex issues. Produced in conjunction with our innovative partners at MediaStorm.org, CFR.org’s inaugural guide, Crisis Guide: Korean Peninsula, looked at the standoff between the two Koreas. Future guides will tackle such issues at the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Kashmir, China-Taiwan, global pandemics, and many others.
