The lower house of Somalia’s parliament has voted to postpone national elections, which have already been delayed by months, by an additional two years, leaving themselves and President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed, known as Farmaajo, in place in the interim

The apparent success of the military coup in Niger bodes ill for democracy and stability in the Sahel and the rest of the continent.

Though the military claims to be a stabilizing force for Sudan’s transition to democracy, divisions amongst the security elite continue to hinder progress toward civilian rule.
