Miles Kahler is senior fellow for global governance at the Council on Foreign Relations and research professor-in-residence and distinguished professor emeritus at American University’s School of International Service. Previously, he was Rohr professor of Pacific international relations and distinguished professor at the School of Global Policy and Strategy and the political science department at the University of California, San Diego.

Kahler is a senior advisor and past member of the editorial board of International Organization. He received the distinguished scholar award from the international political economy section of the International Studies Association (2023). He has been a fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars (2012–13) and the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University (2007–08). He was also senior fellow for international political economy at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York (1994–96).

He has published widely in the fields of international politics and international political economy, including articles and books on global governance, international financial institutions, and Asia-Pacific regionalism. Kahler received his undergraduate and doctoral degrees from Harvard University and a bachelor of philosophy from the University of Oxford.
